Regular price$180.00 Sale priceThe 25 words or less version: Serious Rose! Made with Mataro & Grenache with an eye to age worth Rose. Released with time on its side this fully resolved wine is delicious now or in 3-4 years time. Made with Red wine in mind stylistically as opposed to white wine.
The GB version: The 2022 vintage in Bothe the Barossa and McLaren Vale were cooler than normal in general. Tough conditions early in the growing season with frost and damaging hail and winds made it difficult for some vineyards but the latter part of the growing season was generally quite favourable with longer hang times for fruit resulting in wines with great flavour and acid balance.
This wine might be a little different to your usual Rose. It was made with a different style in mind to most Australian Rose. Instead of the youthful, frisky highly aromatic Rose we're used to in this country this wine was made and given time to relax/resolve in old oak barrels and in bottle before release. A wine that is hopefully age worthy, complex, interesting and perhaps a little closer to red wine than what we might be used to. It was made with both Mataro & Grenache, hand picked and pressed gently to old oak where a spontaneous fermentation occurred. The wine was left in oak on full lees for 12 months before being racked and loosely filtered into bottle. Then spending 18 months in bottle doing it's thing before we thought it was in a good spot for drinking.
The nose is relatively complex with dark cherry aromas and browned off spices like fennel and cumin. The palate has generosity of fruit weight without feeling heavy. It's quite a savoury style of Rose, not fruit dominant. More red fruit flavours chime in and phonics frame the wine and give it good length and flow. There's and orange peel/Campari type bitterness on the finish which makes it feel quite "grown up". Different to what we've done in the past but we consider it a successful foray into the wild world of Rose
